The Dedekind class number formula relates the leading term of the zeta function at s=0 to arithmetic invariants such as the class number. This earliest example of relationship between analytic and arithmetic objects now forms a part of a vast conjectural generalisation relating L-functions to arithmetic objects. Stark's conjecture is one instance of such a generalisation. We will see a statement of Stark's conjecture and our recent work, jointly with Samit Dasgupta, on a special case of Stark's conjecture.
